Mithapur, December 18, 2022: Tata Chemicals organised the 22nd edition of the Open Saurashtra Half Marathon at Mithapur today. Over 1,000 people from different sections of society participated in this marathon. While the half marathon for men was 21.3km, it covered 7km for women. Vibha Paul Rishi, non-executive, independent director, Tata Chemicals, flagged off the marathon. This event focused on promoting health and well-being amongst the locals and witnessed an overwhelming response across Mithapur. All the participants that completed the half marathon were awarded certificates by the company.
Commenting on the success of the marathon, N Kamath, VP, Manufacturing, Tata Chemicals, Mithapur said, “It is heartening to see people come out and participate in such huge numbers. Tata Chemicals has been organising this for the last two decades and the people’s enthusiasm is what keeps us going. We are glad that after three years of hiatus, the marathon was celebrated with the same spirit which is overwhelming.”
“We at Tata Chemicals have always believed in contributing positively to society and cannot think of a better way to bring the community together, where everyone can enjoy, get a sense of belongingness, and engage in physical exercise at the same time. I would like to thank all the people for their whole-hearted support and participation,” he added.
Tata Chemicals has been organising this annual marathon since 1995, in memory of its former plant head the Late Shri Prabhakar, who worked with the company for over 25 years and was passionate about sports and fitness. The company hopes to continue his legacy and endorse sports and fitness for locals, via this marathon.
Tata Chemicals’ initiative has resulted in people becoming more health conscious and adopting healthy lifestyle practices. This year’s marathon turnout is a testament to the company’s successful initiative.
