Tata group ranks 1 in Asia Pacific on Sustainability; among top 15 globally

June 23, 2022: GlobeScan SustainAbility Leaders Survey 2022 ranks Tata group number 1 in the Asia Pacific on Sustainability. The group has now featured in the global top 15 for the second time in three years and is the only Asian company to do so.

While Unilever, Patagonia, and IKEA feature at the top of the global list as the most frequently recognized corporate leaders on sustainability, the Tata group is ranked close after Google and Nestle, and at the same level as Walmart, and Apple and Marks and Spencer who are known as sustainability leaders. In the Asia Pacific, Tata group leads by a big margin as compared to peers like City Developments (Singapore), Mahindra, ITC and Samsung.

The top 3 drivers for recognizing companies as leaders were ‘Integration into business strategy’, ‘Evidence of impacts’ and “Sustainable products and services”, demonstrating our group’s strategic focus on sustainability. The survey also highlights climate change, biodiversity loss, food and water scarcity and plastics as the most urgent sustainability challenges facing humanity according to experts.

The recognition comes at an opportune moment, when the Tata group has recently announced bold targets on environmental sustainability aspects of Climate change, Circular economy and Nature and biodiversity.

Siddharth Sharma, group chief sustainability officer, Tata Sons said, “This is a true testament of the group’s progress on sustainability through the continuous efforts of our companies over the years. With the transformative vision and the net zero aspiration that the Group Chairman has now outlined for the Group, it's only a matter of time that we move up to be hopefully within the top 10 in the global rankings on sustainability.”
